Unboxing the 12GB Samsung Galaxy S10 Plus: Is it worth $1,600?

The Galaxy S10 Plus with 12GB of RAM costs $1,600, but is it worth that huge price tag?

The 1TB version of the Samsung Galaxy S10 Plus has 12GB of RAM and costs $1,600 in the U.S. (1,600 Euros in Europe). That is $600 more than the base model Galaxy S10 Plus (which costs $999 unlocked) and $850 more than the Galaxy S10e with 128GB of storage (which costs $749 unlocked). So, is that gigantic price increase worth it?

$850 is a significant amount of money. For that money, you can buy a Dell G5 15-inch gaming laptop with 8GB of RAM, 1TB of storage, and an NVIDIA GTX 1050 GPU for $850. That puts the choice into stark contrast: either a smartphone with 1TB of internal storage (and lots of bragging rights), or still get a device from the Galaxy S10 range — albeit a lesser variant — plus a new gaming laptop!

Even if you opted for the 512GB variant of the Galaxy S10 for $1,150, you would still have change from $1,600 to buy a PlayStation 4!

Leaving the questions about the value proposition of the 1TB variant of the S10 Plus, there are other pertinent questions. Over the next few weeks, I’m going to be testing the storage speed, the benefits (if any) of that 12GB of RAM, and take a look at Samsung Dex running on this device. What else should I test with this top-of-the-line variant of the S10 series? Please let me know in the comments below.
