Gut wrenching to imagine parents that would disregard the safety and well-being of their child to the point of abuse. Intriguing to see the shift of her views over time due to exposure to education and what a powerful change education can make on a person.

While this book has some things to offer everyone, the truth of this book is that a truly "educated" human being would not have flung themselves back into that hell over and over. This book is a testament to the real destruction that patriarchal religions and beliefs have had on our history and continue to have on our current society. In order to save the people in our lives, especially ourselves, we must be willing to walk away from the hell that surrounds us and find a new paradigm. For me, a deeply abused person, the most powerful words in the whole book were the ones spoken by the Bedouins to Drew after the killing of bin Laden. I hope that Ms. Westover continues in her therapy as I do in mine. That education will help you know truth from hell in your future.

About the author
Tara Westover is an American historian and memoirist. Her first book, Educated, debuted at #1 on the New York Times bestseller list and remained on the list, in hardcover, for more than two years. The book, a memoir of her upbringing in rural Idaho, was a finalist for a number of national awards, including the Los Angeles Times Book Prize, the PEN/Jean Stein Book Award, and the National Book Critics Circle Award. To date it has been translated into more than forty-five languages. The New York Times named Educated one of the 10 Best Books of 2018, and the American Booksellers Association voted Educated the Nonfiction Book of the Year. For her staggering impact, Time named Westover one of the 100 Most Influential People of 2019. Westover holds a PhD in intellectual history from Trinity College, Cambridge, and in 2019 she was the Rosenthal Writer in Residence at Harvard University. In 2023, she was awarded the National Humanities Medal by President Biden.
