About this movie

When sadistic young thugs senselessly attack John Wick (Keanu Reeves) – a brilliantly lethal ex-assassin – they have no idea they’ve messed with the wrong guy. With New York City as his bullet-riddled playground, Wick embarks on a merciless rampage, hunting down his adversaries with the skill and ruthlessness that made him an underworld legend.

While it did manage to make me weep in the first 20 minutes with an ASPCA moment (don't watch if you can't stand animal cruelty), this movie lacked any depth, the violence was pretty gratuitous and stereotypical, and very little acting was required by any of the actors. It was remarkable in just how much money they spent to make this really bad movie. A real shame.

I rented this to watch a generic action movie and see how Keanu is doing. I got a generic action flick, and Keanu is still the emotionless android we've all come to know and feel nothing for. The plot of the "film" is very simple. Keanu is a reformed assassin who married and got out of the business. His former employer's son kills his dog and steals his car without knowing who Keanu his. This made Keanu upset, so he killed everybody. The end. Also Willem Dafoe is in there for about 5 minutes. Also Mayhem, from the GEICO commercials..

I bought this on a leap of faith and wow, I was not disappointed. I was skeptical after 47 Ronin and Man of Tai Chi, but John Wick is awesome. It's a straight forward action film that has great casting, excellent choreography and fantastic editing. Having great actors like Michael Qyvist, Willem Dafoe, Lance Reddick, John Leguizamo and Ian McShane in the film really brought the characters to life. Even though some of his performances can be a bit wooden, overall I like Keanu Reeves and he's well cast here. I'd have to agree with others and say this is probably his best role since the original Matrix although he was really good in Constantine. 5* highly recommended. I'm glad I bought John Wick instead of renting it.
