Industry Leading Security Features
Messages are stored on Proton Mail servers using end-to-end encryption at all times and are transmitted securely between Proton servers and user devices. This largely eliminates the risk of message interception.

Zero Access to Your Email Content
Proton Mail's zero access architecture means that your data is encrypted in a way that makes it inaccessible to us. Data is encrypted on the client side using an encryption key that Proton does not have access to. This means we don't have the technical ability to decrypt your messages.

Open-Source Cryptography
Proton Mail's open-source software has been thoroughly vetted by security experts from around the world to ensure the highest levels of protection. Proton Mail only uses secure implementations of AES, RSA, along with OpenPGP, while all of the cryptographic libraries used are open source. By using open-source libraries, Proton Mail can guarantee that the encryption algorithms used do not have clandestinely built-in back doors.

Proton Mail in the press:

“Proton Mail is an email system which uses end-to-end encryption, making it impossible for outside parties to monitor.” Forbes

“A new email service being developed by a group from MIT that met at CERN promises to bring secure, encrypted email to the masses and keep sensitive information away from prying eyes.” Huffington Post

Sorting beyond 3 tags and 3 folders locked behind a subscription (I get why, but still). Latest update makes reading some emails in dark mode impossible - black lettering on a dark charcoal background. "Automatic loading of remote content is turned off. This can be changed in the settings." Settings are extremely limited, and nowhere in that scant list is anything even alluding to the idea of automatic loading of remote content. I think I'll stick to the desktop version.

I used to love the app, but since the newest update (4.0.6) it's horrible. The font looks like notepad, when you reply to an email you have to scroll all the way to the top to see what you are typing, and with every reply it adds another Re to the subject line. The app is absolutely garbage now. I really hope they fix it soon or I HAVE to bail on it. Its basically unusable like this.

I agree with the other reviews here after the last update to version 4.0.6. It's a major step back & almost unusable especially when responding to long emails. The new font is ridiculous with no way to revert to the previous default one & it no longer automatically hyperlinks. I wish there was a way to rollback to the previous version!
